My birthday month “Walking for health” initiative worked out way better than I could have imagined!
As of June 26th, I had managed to walk every single day of the month. But then it was time for Spiritual Renewal Week.
I knew I had to be at the Temple every single morning for eight days in a row, looking good and ready to sing. I also knew that — as warm as the weather was — if I said I’d walk later in the day, I was highly unlikely to follow through.
So, I decided to walk to the Temple each morning, leaving before it got too warm, with my breakfast shake and performance clothes in my backpack. Then I would ride home with Ramesha after the class.
And that’s exactly what I did: Sunday morning before service; Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday before class. Of course, Monday night was kirtan and Wednesday night the concert, which is when I started to feel a little like I was burning the candle at both ends!
Wednesday also happened to be the final day of the month — whoo hoo! — and a part of me thought, maybe I’ll take Thursday morning off. But that’s when the miracle kicked in: I got up this morning and I didn’t want to skip my walk to the Temple!
I had my routine and I didn’t want to break it. Plus I like knowing that I’ve got this steady, healthy activity going on even if (in the midst of all the busyness) I miss the mark a little on my eating guidelines.
But most of all, it just feels good. Which makes me feel good!
