Maria Callas forever!

Tonight we watched Maria by Callas: In Her Own Words, a documentary about the legendary soprano told through interviews, home movies, private letters, and unpublished memoirs.

And her performances, of course.

But — my goodness! — what performances! It’s embarrassing to admit that, although I’ve known of her, I really didn’t have a clue who Maria Callas was. Watching the movie was truly a revelation.

Her voice, her artistry, her expressivity, her incredible magnetism…words fail me. Watch the video above and experience it for yourself.

I am now her forever fan.

It feels great to be back

My voice is a little out of shape — it’s been two months, after all! — and my lingering cough didn’t help matters.

But what a joy to be singing for Sunday service again!

Progress is being made

It took some doing, but I finally located the stash of photos that will accompany my Swami stories. YAY!

I’m also making progress in terms of developing my voice: Ramesha and I have found a mutually agreeable time for him to work with me on a regular basis. Double YAY!!

And…our music team is getting back in the flow of meeting and planning. Triple YAY!!!

Inspiration from Helen Keller

Helen Keller

I discovered and promptly fell in love with this quote by Helen Keller today:

“I believe that God is in me as the sun is in the color and fragrance of a flower — the Light in my darkness, the Voice in my silence.”

What evocative imagery! I loved being prompted to ponder “how the sun is in the color and fragrance of a flower”.

And I love absorbing myself in the truth that God is expressing in, through, and as each one of us in much the same way.

All in the family

I’m finally taking advantage of the fact that I live with a singing teacher!

We’re getting ready to do some recording soon and I realized that I really (and I do mean, really!) needed to get my voice in better shape.

So for the past four or five days in a row (!), Ramesha has been guiding me through warm-ups, scales, and long tones. And — yes! — my voice is improving (imagine that! practice makes it better)! 😂

All kidding aside, he truly is an excellent teacher.
