A new adventure awaits

Our last three visits to Lugano we stayed mostly on hillsides, up winding roads with some pretty stunning views.

Well, we have a view of the lake where we are now, but the getting here is completely different.

Basically, while the apartment is quite elegant and refined, as well as being in a beautiful area (not that we’ve had a chance to explore yet; more about that tomorrow), we have to drive a heavily traveled road past probably the largest shopping center in the Lugano region to get from here to Ramesha’s family home.

This list of shops gives you some idea. And we’re just days away from Christmas!

Yikes! 😱

Sunset season

The view from our front door

This is the time of year when we get amazing sunsets. Since I’m ready to spend this Sunday evening relaxing, I think I’ll just share this beautiful sunset from yesterday and call it a night.

Seclusion view

Taken while reclining on the couch

First step of seclusion for me is simply slowing down…WAY down!

I feel totally unproductive and have to remind myself that’s OKAY.

Otherwise, I’ll be “in seclusion” but with my same old always-busy, never-getting-enough-done, can’t-ever-measure-up, I’m-not-worthy mindset!

Nope, no way. Not going there.

In fact, it’s 7:30 and I’m just about ready for bed. 🥱

On the street where I lived

We spent the afternoon driving around Milpitas…revisiting old haunts and simply remembering.

The top photo is 1853 Conway Street, our family home starting from when I was five. Fifty years ago it was only one story, there was no brick fence, and the shade tree was much, much smaller.

Our driveway pointed straight up Greathouse Drive (photo below), so this was my view every time I walked out of the house. It was nice to see that it hadn’t changed hardly at all.

Thinking about Lugano

I didn’t take this photo but it’s a great view of Lake Lugano and Monte Brè (which is to the left), with more mountains marching into the distance.

The yellow rectangle not too far above the water line is (approximately) where we stayed for a month.

Amazing how long ago it feels already.

Walking the neighborhood

The parking area of our apartment; Mt San Salvatore is ubiquitous!

The rain finally stopped and I was able to go for a walk in the neighborhood.

This time I went uphill from our apartment and took photos on the way down.

I love noticing how the vista changes when viewed from different elevations.

Enjoying the golden hour

It’s been a while since I sat outside and simply enjoyed the quiet.

Even better: this evening I also enjoyed the dinner time view — it went really well with pizza!

Enjoying nature

Our patio garden is slowly coming together. I actually sat outside for a while this morning, enjoying the view and listening to the birdsong.

It provides a nice balance for how much driving around we’ll be doing this week.
