Coping with the unexpected

Today I had a noon time medical appointment in Grass Valley, followed by a mid-afternoon appointment in Auburn. This was perfect, as it allowed me to set up a lunch date with my Dad and two of my siblings.

Unfortunately, my body took exception to something I ate yesterday, throwing my system off and making last night and this morning more than a little uncomfortable.

My energy was pretty zapped but I still got it together to drive to my appointments. So far, so good…except that it decided to rain and then snow throughout the whole drive. Thank goodness it didn’t accumulate much, so the roads remained clear!

Needless to say, I was pretty much wiped out by the time I got home.

Good healing weather

It’s been raining pretty much all day; perfect weather for sitting at home recovering.

I felt like I had really slept in late this morning. But then I was so drowsy while meditating that I laid down afterwards and slept for two more hours.

Definitely some real healing going on.

Close neighbors

I love seeing these little guys staying cool and moist in my outdoor plants (I’m sure he’s even happier now that it’s raining); but all too often they find their way indoors — which is not so cool!

I like them as neighbors, not as housemates. 😂

Wildlife sighting

I think the animals have really been enjoying the increased moisture after the recent rain. I’ve noticed a lot more birds flying around our yard and even saw a couple of jackrabbits — which are usually only out and about before dawn or during twilight.

And then today, for the first time ever, I saw a bobcat!

I was sitting on the patio enjoying some afternoon sunshine when he walked by — a little way out from my chair — as cool as you please. I quickly (but quietly) ran inside to grab my glasses so I could be sure of what I was seeing, and sure enough that’s what it was.

I could see the short tail with a dark end, markings on the front legs, and the distinctive ears.

I didn’t have my phone to grab a pic but he looked almost exactly like the photo above. Incredibly beautiful, but I hope he doesn’t discover the chickens at Ananda Village’s goat dairy. 😟

Flooding in Italy

The route we traveled on Tuesday is the blue line that cuts directly through the flooded region!

It was raining really hard as we drove up the A-1 on Tuesday, but we had no idea just how much rain the region was getting until reading about the flooding, evacuations, and deaths this morning.

I’m extremely grateful that we decided to stick to our departure date, rather than delaying by even a day.

Our guardian angels were definitely looking out for us.

What a difference a week makes

Last Sunday I was on Day 6 of my weeklong retreat at Blue Sage Sanctuary, and Ramesha was sending me photos of our slightly snowbound apartment (the above photo was taken from our kitchen window).

Today everywhere we look is green and brown again, thanks to the rain which has been coming down steadily for days now. And I felt very blessed to be back in the Temple of Light for Sunday service, after missing last week.

But the thoughts, insights, and lessons of the retreat are very much with me still.

Weather from dawn to dusk

It was a beautiful sunrise this morning (the photo really doesn’t do justice to the colors of the sky).

We ran errands in town in the afternoon, driving back in the rain and reaching home just as it transitioned into snow.

Dusk came early, with the snow sticking pretty good after only about thirty minutes.

It’s beautiful weather, really.

Rain in June

Rain in June always feels somewhat miraculous to me, especially given the current realities of drought and fire danger.

The fact that we got serious rain last Sunday and even a little rain today — just one week later — is cause for jubilation in my book.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could have even one good day of rain a month throughout the summer and fall?

An exhausting Monday

After a mild autumn, the sudden onslaught of serious winter weather comes as a bit of a shock to the system!

I would have been quite happy to stay inside, rather than out in the high winds and heavy rain, but I had two appointments in town — getting blood drawn for fasting labs in the morning and physical therapy in the afternoon.

In between I had my breakfast shake in the hospital lobby while replying to emails on my phone.

I got gas and cashed checks at the bank; took advantage of being in town to grab a few Christmas-y items; picked up our grocery order; then ate the snacks I brought for lunch while sitting in the car.

An intense physical therapy session, then one final errand: picking up artwork for the music office from the frame shop.

All while driving with extra caution in the rain and doing my best to stay dry while popping in and out of the car. By the time I got home I was completely done in.

Now it’s time for dinner and an early night.
