Thinking about God’s love

I was pondering and pondering what to write tonight, but my jetlagged brain simply wouldn’t cooperate.

So I ended up scrolling through Facebook for inspiration and found this absolutely wonderful quote by Swami Kriyananda.

How comforting that the key to overcoming doubt is dwelling on the thought of how much God loves us.

It also reminds me of another deeply inspiring quote, this one by the French saint, Jean Vianney: “If you knew how much God loves you, you would die for joy!”

Great opportunity or impossible situation?

“We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations.” — Charles Swindoll

I’m relating to this quote today. Especially as I watch some seemingly impossible situations gradually be revealed as great opportunities!

My prayer this evening

Sometimes when there’s so much to do (as is happening in these days!) I can feel the overwhelm slowly but surely starting to paralyze me.

So, I’m grateful to be reminded that I can ask for help, for guidance, which makes all the difference in the world.

Remembering the guru with love

“Remember this: When I am gone, only love can take my place. Be absorbed night and day in the love of God, and give that love to all.” — Paramhansa Yogananda

Loving what is

This is the quote I was trying to find yesterday.

Loving what IS seems to be the current theme for my life.

Music and breathing

I totally resonate with this quote from Ray Charles.

In fact, I would take it even further: just as we can’t live without breathing, I believe we can’t truly live without music.

Thoughts on sitting and being

A violinist friend from my classical music days responded to Saturday’s blog post (in which I describe enjoying some “serious R&R” time) with the following quote:

“We have a tendency to think in terms of doing and not in terms of being. We think that when we are not doing anything, we are wasting our time. But that is not true. Our time is first of all for us to be. To be what? To be alive, to be peaceful, to be joyful, to be loving. And that is what the world needs most.”
— Thich Nhat Nanh

So many of us need to read reminders like this regularly.

In fact, while I was sitting and simply staring off into space that day, I found myself remembering another quote which I love; I heard it many years ago, but have no idea who originally said it): “Sometimes I sits and thinks, and sometimes I just sits.”

Bottom line is we need to spend more and more of our time remembering that “Spirit is the journey; the body is the bus.” And that we’re human beings not human doings.

Inspiration from Helen Keller

Helen Keller

I discovered and promptly fell in love with this quote by Helen Keller today:

“I believe that God is in me as the sun is in the color and fragrance of a flower — the Light in my darkness, the Voice in my silence.”

What evocative imagery! I loved being prompted to ponder “how the sun is in the color and fragrance of a flower”.

And I love absorbing myself in the truth that God is expressing in, through, and as each one of us in much the same way.

Skip the skipping ahead; embrace persistence & determination instead

I’ve loved the below quote forever. It taught me a lot when I was studying music in college. Especially the line: “nothing is more common than unsuccessful men (or women!) with talent.”

“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘Press On’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” — Calvin Coolidge
