My birthday month “Walking for health” initiative worked out way better than I could have imagined!
As of June 26th, I had managed to walk every single day of the month. But then it was time for Spiritual Renewal Week.
I knew I had to be at the Temple every single morning for eight days in a row, looking good and ready to sing. I also knew that — as warm as the weather was — if I said I’d walk later in the day, I was highly unlikely to follow through.
So, I decided to walk to the Temple each morning, leaving before it got too warm, with my breakfast shake and performance clothes in my backpack. Then I would ride home with Ramesha after the class.
And that’s exactly what I did: Sunday morning before service; Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday before class. Of course, Monday night was kirtan and Wednesday night the concert, which is when I started to feel a little like I was burning the candle at both ends!
Wednesday also happened to be the final day of the month — whoo hoo! — and a part of me thought, maybe I’ll take Thursday morning off. But that’s when the miracle kicked in: I got up this morning and I didn’t want to skip my walk to the Temple!
I had my routine and I didn’t want to break it. Plus I like knowing that I’ve got this steady, healthy activity going on even if (in the midst of all the busyness) I miss the mark a little on my eating guidelines.
But most of all, it just feels good. Which makes me feel good!
Well, o-kay! I am well and truly back into high gear with my healthy new regime.
I’ve almost finished the first week of another Challenge, which means I’m wrapping up my once-a-week day of fasting.
Our power was out (PG&E was replacing a pole) so I worked from the office all day instead of at home, which I think made it a little easier. It also helped that I had time sensitive projects to complete; there’s nothing like a deadline to make time fly by!
I’m also enjoying getting back into my walking routine. I have to confess that I hardly walked at all during the two weeks between Challenges. The “daily tracker” simply works for me, big time!
Come the end of this current Challenge, I’m going to have make my own “in-between” tracker so that I can stay…well, on track. 🏃♀️
It’s rather amazing, but my brain seems to have suddenly shifted into high gear!
Wow.
I just accomplished more in the past hour and a half than I was able to do in all of yesterday. And I’m only stopping because I’ve been doing so well at going to bed early that I don’t want to work any later than 7:30pm.
But this feels really good. Really, really good. 😊
