Sheer beauty wins the day

It was time to write my blog post, but my mind was blank.

I reflected on my day. No ideas came.

I reviewed my notes of possible blog topics. Nothing appealed to me.

I resorted to scrolling through Facebook for inspiration. Nothing, nothing…

Until — at last! — this painting leapt out at me. I’m sharing it simply because it’s beautiful.

(I only regret that I couldn’t identify the artist in order to give them credit.)

A double whammy

I was on Facebook yesterday when I saw the above quote.

It definitely made me think. But then, it was immediately followed by this quote as the very next post:

“Perhaps the most valuable result of all education is the ability to make yourself do the thing you have to do, when it ought to be done, whether you like it or not.” — Thomas Henry Huxley

Reading the two, one right after another like that, made me pause and reflect. I think of myself as educated and mature. And yet, I still struggle to live up to the standards expressed within those two quotes.

I guess the truth is that, no matter one’s chronological age, our true educational process of reaching our full human potential is never completely done.

Sucked in by Facebook

Sometimes Facebook will notify me about a “friend’s” birthday, and I realize I can’t even remember the person or how I know them.

So then I’ll go to their profile in order to decide whether it’s time to “unfriend” them.

Unfortunately, today was one of those times when I couldn’t really remember the person, but I did recognize someone on their friends list who I hadn’t seen in years and was curious about what they were up to.

Then, of course, I ran across someone on that person’s friends list…and so on and so forth, until I was completely sucked into the black hole that is Facebook. 🤦‍♀️

Which is why this is all I have time to write about in today’s blog post!
