Beautiful evening star

I don’t have real photographic capabilities, but I still can’t resist trying to capture beautiful moments like this.

Venus, the brightest planet in our solar system, shines more brilliantly than any of the actual stars in the sky.

Isn’t she beautiful?

Living in gratitude

I had an urge for a kombucha the other day and came upon GT’s Synergy fall edition flavor, titled: Living in Gratitude.

So, let me start off by sharing how grateful I am that — in the midst of all the crazy stuff going on in the world — this company is committed to expressing beautiful, positive, and uplifting ideals (see below for what is written on the bottle).

As of now, GT’s Synergy is officially my favorite brand of kombucha!

The Gift of the Present
I’ve found that when we dwell on what could have been, and wait for what could be, we take the present for granted. Living in gratitude unleashes joy in the now and nourishes your soul. In this one precious life we are given, may you favor the blessings in front of you and pay them forward with kindness. — GT Dave, Founder

Prayer of Gratitude
In this present moment, may grace envelop you and open your heart wide to the here and now. In this sacred space, may gratitude grow inside you and reveal the profound beauty of life.

Affirmation
I open my eyes to gratitude, by opening my heart to love. I am rooted in this practice, for its generosity knows no bounds.

Grateful for democracy

I’ve never before felt such a powerful sense of relief after voting in an election. And I’ve never before felt so much urgency about voting early.

Tonight I’m feeling grateful for America and for democracy. Neither is perfect (nothing is in this world), but I definitely prefer them to the alternatives.

I love knowing my vote counts.

Welcome home

It’s such a joy having Jyotish and Devi back home at Ananda Village once again.

I’m soooo grateful to be able to call such great souls my friends.

Mixing & mastering & editing, oh my!

Today we spent six solid hours in the studio with Mike and Christian, mixing and mastering and editing (oh my, indeed!).

My brain is completely exhausted but twelve of the fourteen tracks for our upcoming Christmas album are now done.

This sometimes seems like a never-ending project, but we’re so close at this point that I can practically taste it.

Sunset season

The view from our front door

This is the time of year when we get amazing sunsets. Since I’m ready to spend this Sunday evening relaxing, I think I’ll just share this beautiful sunset from yesterday and call it a night.

Rediscovering Harry Belafonte

Look what I saw on Facebook today!

One of my uncles taught us this song when I was a child and I always thought it was so much fun. Over the years I’ve shared about it with friends (though I wouldn’t sing the whole thing, assuming it would be too boring), but I had never actually seen it performed by anyone. So this video with Harry Belafonte and Odetta was a delightful surprise that had me laughing out loud at the end.

I’m in full agreement with some of the comments on YouTube: “Perfect comic timing, absolute perfection from two incredible talents.” And, “If you are ever feeling depressed watch this! Such talent and to see the expressions and chemistry between them is amazing!”

Watching the video also took me back to junior high school, when my parents had Harry Belafonte’s Calypso LP, which I listened to constantly. Most everyone has probably heard The Banana Boat Song (aka Day-O) and Jamaica Farewell from this album.

But my personal favorite was always Man Smart (Woman Smarter). Budding feminist that I was, I really got a kick out of it; although listening to it today, I realize my pre-teen self didn’t fully understand some of the lyrics! 😂

Post-seclusion sunset glow

I had a beautiful seclusion and now it’s wonderful to be home.

It seems like an extra touch of grace that — after a week of amazing sunrises — I was welcomed back with an amazing sunset.
